According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it's unclear, but seems to be based on a mispronunciation of the Latin word "unicornus" (unicorn) in medieval Old French. The "ali-" part doesn't mean anything specifically; it's just a variant of "uni-" in this word. Basically, it's a mistake.
