Ivy bridge CPU on Sandy Bridge motherboard?

Hi,

Is it possible to upgrade my Sandy Bridge laptop (thinkpad E420s) to Ivy Bridge CPU if I upgrade the bios? I read that it is possible on desktop computers but not sure about laptops.

Thanks.

    No it's not possible.

The CPU might be soldered into the motherboard on that kind if laptop and can't be replaced at all.

Even if it's not, you'd have to check if there are any CPU upgrade paths listed for your laptop. If there isn't then there is no way to know if it will be compatible. You normally don't upgrade the CPU in that kind of laptop. It's not at all as easy to upgrade a laptop CPU as it is a desktop PC.
