The easiest is to look for a DVD/VHS combo player that records onto DVDs (not all do). These are getting harder to find, but they are out there. The nice thing is that they usually have one-touch dubbing from VHS to DVD - you put in the VHS tape, a blank DVD disk, and press a button. You need to "finish" the DVD before you can play it on other players. I recommend using DVD-R disks.

If you can't find a combo, you can hook up a VHS deck to a DVD recorder using component cables. You just have to start the VHS tape then push the record button on the DVD recorder.

Note: If the VHS is copy-protected, it won't work.

I have three DVD recorders (all Sony --- two RDR-GX7s and one RDR-GX315).

They work well, but blank DVDs that are compatible with them

are getting harder to find by the week.

For a computer-based solution, use a "capture device".

    Whatever method you choose,

the equipment will come with instructions.

    Read them.

if you have a laptop you can get a usb device off amazon or any computer store that allows video input, you just use that to transfer your vhs to your hard drive and then use software to convert
