I presently have a pc, and want to switch over to a lap top. What equipment would I be able to get rid of with Verizon?

    None? If Verizon is your internet provider (my condolences) then nothing changes. A laptop doesn't magically pull the Internet through the air, you still need either a wired or wireless connection to a service provider. You are merely changing form factors, nothing else.

    Unless you're going 100% cellular (which will require an adapter or hotspot device), you don't save a thing.
