Do you fully erase pencil marks from paper?

I was erasing some calculus work recently. And of course, if you're deep into a function or equation and notice that you were wrong at some early point, the whole thing is incorrect. So I have to go ahead and erase everything, however I randomly got curious and wondered if pencil marks are ever fully erased from a paper. I guess it technically depends on how much pressure you put into it, but even if you don't apply much pressure, is it ever completely erased even to a microscopic level? =]

Forensic scientists are able to recover erased pencil marks well enough to read what was originally written. (Unless you erase so hard you leave a hole in the paper, like Beethoven did with his manuscript for his third symphony.)
