I have a 25 year addiction that I can't get under control. I've tried everything. What do I do?

Update:

I feel like giving up

Update 2:

When I say I have tried everything, I mean everything: 12 steps, God, church, professional counseling, pastoral counseling willpower - EVERYTHING

Update 3:

btw there is no 12 step group in my area for my specific problem

Update 4:

I have tried talking to a doctor and that didn't help.

I don't have any family or friends. I don't even have any roommates.

I HAVE NO ONE

I know YA isn't the best place to seek help for this kind of thing but where else can I turn? I don't have any other options. Posting on here is my absolute last resort. I don't know where else to turn. I didn't know what else to do.

Update 5:

I honestly don't think I can get well after a 25 year problem and I keep having relapse after relapse, despite my attempt at willpower and my best efforts to resist temptation. I just can't do it but if anyone out there can possibly help me I would be eternally grateful, more than you could ever possibly know

Talk to a doctor, or somebody you trust. Posting on Yahoo Answers won't do much for your addiction. If you really, really want help, always talk to a professional. We can only give you so much advice, it's up to you and what you want to do about it. :)

EDIT: As previously stated, talking about it on Yahoo Answers will NOT help you at all. Most of us are not professionals at addiction and half of us are sarcastic internet trolls. I honestly am going to tell you the same thing you've heard- talk to friends, family, and people you trust, because it will REALLY work. If you think nothing works, think again. You are the only one who can change yourself.

EDIT: I don't know much about 12 steps, all I can say is that if you've tried it and it didn't work, try to find a new method.

    Good luck!

You're actually at step one of the 12 step program. Have you tried one of those related to your addiction? It's worth having a look locally if you haven't- they can help. It is also worth attending church- God can help us when we can't help ourselves..

Seek help from your doctor and follow his advice.
