Whether you're in Joliet, Las Vegas NV, Toronto ON or Orgasm PA doesn't really mater, because the principles and procedures are all the same. It will go exactly like this...
The examiner will check all the required documentation (licence / permit, plates / registration and insurance), then you'll sit in the vehicle and they'll ask you to show them where the controls for the gears, wipers, lights, turn signals, horn, e-brake, defroster, and a few other things are. Once you get through that, you'll go to a controlled area where you do the 3-point turn and parallel parking manoeuvre. That procedure is just basic control of a vehicle, nothing but steering, shifting and working the pedals, so they do that part first. Because if you can't demonstrate basic control of the vehicle, there is no way they want you driving around in live traffic.
After the 3-point turn / parallel parking, then you head out on the road. They will do all the navigating and provide you with clear instructions as to where to turn and which direction, and you're allowed to ask for clarification if their instructions are not clear enough, so all you have to worry about is the actual driving. If you can take a nice calm drive around town, without crashing into anything or breaking any laws, you pass. If you do crash or break the law just once, you fail and have to try again. Seriously, just drive around and obey the law (and don't crash), and that licence is yours.
The examiner will not trick you into breaking the law, but they will give you ample opportunity. They love telling you to take the next available left, knowing that left turns are prohibited at the next intersection. They also love roads with changing speed limits, like school or hospital zones, and they will definitely take you through at least one pedestrian crossing and train crossing. There will always be signs clearly posted, though, so always look for the signs. The signs will tell you everything you need to know.
