Is the word "Queer" offensive? Check details before answering please!?

I am personally bi and don't find queer offensive because to me it just means someone who isn't straight. Anyway, i googled it and apparently it is considered an offensive word to some. I'm writing a paper for english and I just want to know if it's acceptable to say this sentence: " It is a book that depicts the history of homosexuals and other queers throughout history." ?

I call myself Queer, but it s offensive when someone calls me a queer in a degrading way. Kind of like the N word. I would rephrase your sentence to say "It is a book that depicts the history of homosexuals and other queer folk throughout history." It sounds less like a slur and more of a proper term that way!

It has never been offensive to me because I don't view words with the same ire as p.c. obsessed radicals who get bent out of shape over simple words. Now stalking me or threatening me with violence, I take objection to.

It was considered offensive until it was reclaimed by the lgbt+ community and used it to show they don't care if you call them that because they do it too. It isn't really seen as offensive nowadays.
