    Original equation:

    x² - 48 = 0

    Add 48 to both sides to isolate x²:

    x² = 48

    Take the square root of both sides, remember to add the ± sign:

    x = ± √48

    x = ± √16√3

    x = ± 4√3

    Add 48 to both sides will isolate the x^2.

    Then, when you take square roots of both sides make use of fact that 48 = 16 * 3
