Question on one of the rules of basketball! I d really appreciate a clarification on charging.?
What constitutes a charge in basketball? Is it as simple as: If the defender is planted (both feet are still) and the offensive player provides enough force to knock the defender back it is a charge.. or does the defender have to be hit with enough force to be knocked to the ground? I realize it might be subjective based mostly on the refs but I could not find a solid answer in the rules.

Basically what it means is in order to get a charge you must draw a foul from the offensive player while in an established position on the court anywhere outside the restricted zone (semi circle in the key). Your feet have to be set and the offensive player has to create the contact.

If a defender has his feet planted then he technically owns that position on the floor. Any effort to forcfully move his planted position is considered a foul. It could be a simple push, bump, or jumping into him.

so just to be absolutely clear, does that mean that even if the defender is only bumped enough to have to take one step back it is a foul?
