I purchased an IRA CD 2/2016 & didn't know that I could've counted that as a 2015 contribution. Can I count it for a 2016 contribution?

    When you made the contribution, you had to specify which tax year you intended it for. Check your paperwork.

    Don't want to do an amended return .. but you're saying I can still do it as a 2016 contribution? These are first IRA CDs we've done so not familiar with process.

    You can file an amended 2015 return if you want it to be for 2015. Then you can make another contribution for 2016 if you want to.
