Should I risk driving my car out of town?

So I have a 2014 Ford Focus with transmission troubles. I took it into Ford for this and it's under warranty but the parts are on back order for 12-16 weeks. So they re flashed the computer and set an appointment for when the clutches I think arrive. They said it's safe to drive so I've put on 1500 miles since the Ford visit and the re flash helped a lot until yesterday. Yesterday on my way home from work something was literally making a clapping noise, there was a lot of kicking and stuttering vibrations. Twice it almost stalled out. I just don't understand why the damn thing won't just die if it's really that bad! Anyway of course driving this morning was fine just drove normally. But next month my family planned a vacation and I was just going to meet them there driving my car as I don't have a lot of money and driving is my cheapest option but only if the car works. I don't really know what to do about this lemon on wheels as I still owe a ton and can't afford to just dump it. I just need it fixed like now!

Update:

It has 19 thousand miles and I've had it a year and a half

Don't accept the 12-16 weeks. If it's under warranty go back to them at every hint of a problem. Keep pestering them and let them know their service is just not good enough. A car which won't go out of town is little better than a local bus. Tell them you'll be looking to them to cover car rental for your holiday. Tell them anything and keep telling them until they get their finger out their butts and actually do something to expedite the arrival of the spare parts .

Ford dual clutch trannys suck monkey melons.

If it's a long distance trip hire a car for the day, but if you potentially have time to wait for breakdown services, take a chance...

If it's a long drive I would be making alternative plans.
