Should I memorize mandarin radicals before learning words?

So I just began learning mandarin about a week ago and I memorized roughly 80 words, how to say them and how to draw them. I m just wondering, would learning radicals make it easier to learn or should I just continue to learn the way I am?. I m learning using an app called "Memrize".

Yes, you should learn the radicals.

Apps like Memrize become even more useful once you've learned the radicals. Radicals are meant to indicate the meaning or pronunciation of a character. For example, if you see a character with the water radical (氵), you can at least understand that the character is related to water or fluid. 汁 represents juice; and 酒 represents wine or alcohol.

Because written Chinese is so ancient, the relationship between a radical and its character's meaning won't always be clear, but it still helps to have a hint!

If you have any other questions about Chinese, I encourage you to search for eChineseLearning. That website has a ton of great free information on Chinese language. You can reach me on WeChat at: AC_eChineseLearning. Good luck!
