a regular wall is drafted at 6 inches to account for framing and drywall; a wall with plumbing inside can be 8 inches. You can find the usual drafting measurements at many on line web pages for architecture and drafting.

Wall studs are traditionally 2 x 4's so finished thickness before drywall and what not is 3 1/2 inches. Standard wall board is 1/2 inch thick.
