Yes MS is a pigheaded organization, no change there (its the way its always been).
speaking of no change...
i dont know how MS decided on its autoconvert formats, but it hasnt changed since Excel 97.
The long number to scientific autoconversion is not nearly as unpopular as the auto-conversion to the date format....sometimes (usually) people just want to type in a simple 5-9 and not have it convert to a date.
