Fiberglass needs less maintenance and is cheaper to operate. A fiberglass boat of the same size as steel, is lighter and takes less power to move it through the water.

Fibreglass needs less maintenance as it does not corrode. However if it stays in the water for long periods such as through the winter, fibreglass absorbs water through osmosis. It can also blister as a result. So it pays to have dry storage during periods of non use. But overall it still needs less attention than a steel boat.
