Replacing a 1/2.3" sensor with a larger type?
Hello, I'd like to know if it's possible to replace the 1/2.3" sensor on a Sony DSC-HX400V camera with a larger one like the size most mid-class DSLR cameras have, because the HX400V has a good lens, but the sensor is too small to get a good-quality picture? Thanks in advance.

Absolutely zero possibility as sensors are not interchangeable. Plus, the image circle projected by the lens is specifically designed to be only as big as the sensor. Therefore you'd need to change the lens too, which can't be done. Plus, if you were somehow to convince someone to change it, you'd find that the new lens would far larger because it now has to produce an image circle with a much larger diameter to cover the area of the larger sensor.
As you are now aware, these bridge cameras may look like advanced camera like a DSLR, but they're not. The 1/2.3" sensors in these cameras have to be small because that's the only way of engineering a 50x zoom lens that fits in the palm of your hand. Had the sensor been APS-C, let alone full frame, the lens would likely be about 3' long, 6" wide, weigh about 50 lbs., and cost more than a Porsche 911.

Your lens will not cover a larger sensor. They are matched. There is actual optics and math involved in camera design. Not DIY.

In a word?
NO!
Forgetting the physical difficulty of the swap, the lens is designed to cover the smaller sensor. The image it projects will not cover the larger sensor leading to vignetting.
