You might could begin to suspect a football shaped stone the size of a casket had been a meteor if it was located at the bottom of a very deep crater.

I'll guess that it is a glacial dropstone rather than a meteor. A meteor of that size would have made a substantial crater on impact. It would NOT be sitting on the surface of the soil.

If it's been there for generations and it's that big, it's just about impossible that the nearest university with a geology department doesn't know about it and whether it's a meteor.

It has been there for generations and everyone thinks it is a meteor. A guy tried to move it with a tractor and scratched the top. Where it's scratched it looks like blue and white quartz. Beautiful...
