Am I too old to play violin?
I m 13 and I want to play violin. I ve played piano and guitar for 7 years and cello for 2. I really want to have a go and my parents are all for it but I just think I m a bit too old to start. Though, I am willing to ignore my age and just play it. What do you think?

You go! My brother just started violin like 3 months ago and he is 13 too. And he is already getting gold stars from his teacher. Plus he has had NO prior music experience before starting it and with all of the experience you have I'm sure you'll rock whatever instrument you want to play including violin!

NO. NO. NO. You're familiar with other bowed strings ('Cello) so you'll do just fine. And I don't even agree with those who say you're starting too late to get into a performance program in college. That will be a matter of your raw talent PLUS how hard you are willing to work PLUS the ability of your teacher. If you're serious about a career in classical performance you'll need to dedicate a large part of the next 5 years (until you are Sr. in High School) to doing nothing but mastering the violin - but it is possible, ASSUMING you have the talent. If you just want to major in violin as part of a music teaching or arranging program, etc. - you'll have no problem starting now. Good luck.

There is no age for playing music! So go and enjoy playing violin!

I'm 20 and just picked up guitar cuz my girlfriend is a musician and I had to learn something for her. After 3 months I can play many three days grace songs.
I think starting young is only necessary to creating a prodigy. There are chess grandmasters who started at 18, but the absolute best always started as a child. You won't be the best in the world, but you can easily become a skilled musician.

I took up the fiddle in my mid-30s after playing guitar for 20 years. I'm now in my late 50s and have been playing bluegrass and square dance music on the fiddle for more than 20 years and having a ball with it.
If you have aspirations of a professional career as a classical violinist, then you're probably starting too late to get into a good music program for college, but if you just want to play for fun, then you're certainly not too old to start.
Go for it!

No way! I started playing guitar at 13, I took a guitar class in high school. I highly suggest you take a band or violin class in High school if you can(I made my best friends in music class, despite being a hermit). The fact that you play piano and cello and guitar will make it far easier to understand violin.

Uh, you are 13. The only thing you are too old for is diapers and breast feeding. Once you stop those things, you can play the violin.

Not at all! I have a friend who transferred from violin to bass at 12. Since you clearly have musical experience, you should be fine! 🎻🎻🎻

You can start any time you want. I know people who took up violin after they retired.
