Is this a good idea for my book?

So my main character for my book I'm writing goes into old books to find his missing parents. He goes through this big adventure, finds his dad, makes a couple friends, is going to try to find his mom. I want to try to do something so that he disappears and goes back to his world accidentally and has to go and try to go back into the book to find his parents and friends again. Good idea or not? The way back would take him through a different journey and he might find his mom first.

If you're asking rather or not you should have the protagonist complete his journey and then go back and do it again, the answer is no. Even if you mix things up and have him take a different route the second time around, this will **** off a lot of readers for sure.

You could have the protagonist get temporarily separated from his group. However, this should be nothing other than a minor setback; spanning six or seven chapters at most. He accidentally jumps through the wrong book and ends up lost, but he finds him mom. Then use the next few chapters to reunite him (and his mom) with his group.
