Would it be OK to run ethanol fuel in a 25 horse Mercury that is 15 years old 2 cycle engine?

It runs fine but a friend of mine said that on this engine that Mercury said it is OK to run ethanol fuel in this engine. I don't know who is correct.

The person I just bought it from has always used non ethanol fuel.

Any ideas?

Ethanol is OK to run as long as it is stays at 10% or less at the pump. Otherwise, no. The alcohol content tends to 'gum' up the carburetor while setting. If you can find non ethanol fuel, it is even better for 2 cycle engines.
