Personally, I'd say it depends on the device you're running it on. I found Windows 8.1 much more touch friendly than Windows 10, since it had a lot more gesture support that made it somewhat convinient. Windows 8.1 also had the better search system, I could find and execute .exe files in search, whereas in Windows 10, it will mainly only show .exe files that have shortcuts in the Start menu. Windows 10 is however, much better when it comes to non-touch screen devices, and window management is pretty amazing on this version of Windows. Also, Windows 10 is better for modern day gaming due to the performance it could provide. So yeah, overall, I'd say it depends on the type of device it's being run on (one with a touch screen or non-touch screen).

It's your preference. I like Windows 10's UI better, but people with tablets still like 8.1. I also see that Windows 10 is a bit of a resource hog, though. I may be a Mac fan, but I use both. So, I like Windows 10's UI. But I see that Windows 8.1 is a bit less resource-hungry.

Windows 10 is definitely a lot better for a normal PC.
Windows 8.1 is better for a laptop or PC with a touchscreen monitor.

We are M$. Resistance is futile. Your puters and lappies will adapt to service us. We will add your technology to our own. M$ has announced that Windows is NOT a top priority. Pushing people to use the cloud and mobile has become their main focus now. The truth about 10 is coming out.
It would really depend on what you want out of your OS. If you want M$ to rake in more profits by selling the info they collect on you then 10 is better. If you do not like making decision then 10 is better because M$ making will be making them all for you. If you like privacy and making your own decision then Windows 7 and 8.1 is far better than 10. Windows 10 just spyware masquerading as an OS.
From Toms's Hardware:
When Microsoft created Windows 10, it tied in numerous monitoring and data collection tools. The operating system is capable of gathering your search history, web usage, Windows Store usage, details of what applications you use, voice recordings, emails, geographic information and just about anything else that is on your PC. This information is gathered in part for improving Windows-based services, but it is also used for market research and advertising purposes.
This is why M$ is pushing 10 hard because it means a big increase in their profit margarine when they sell the info they collect on you. That is why it is FREE. If you're not paying for it, you’re not the customer, you’re the product being sold. They have seen the profits that the smart phone makers are raking in by spying on their user so M$ decided to emulate that and cripple the desktops, laptops so they can do the same. That's why they built a back door in it so you can't stop the OS with a firewall from phoning home. They spend years coping anything that Apple did. Hence we got Windows 8. Now they are going copy the smart phone industry and and force everyone to use APP. If you're not paying for it, you’re not the customer, you’re the product being sold.
With Windows 10, M$ owns your system.
YOU can no longer pick the updates you want installed.
THEY can choose which drivers are installed.
THEY can choose what THEY want on your system.
THEY even installed a backdoor in it so THEY can SPY on you at all times.
If you DO NOT have 10, don't worry, M$ is hard at work trying to find ways to trick you into getting 10 so you wont have to pay any penalties. Last month they changed the Get Windows 10 Free screen into behaving like MALWARE. When the window opens to offer you 10 for free and you click the red x to close the window, that was the same as excepting the installation date. Even tho in the past clicking the red x turn it down.
From Toms Hardware
Now, as we near the end of the free upgrade period, Microsoft’s malware-like upgrade system is becoming even more intrusive by autoscheduling upgrades to Windows 10. I noticed that the Windows 10 upgrade reminder pop-up on a Windows 7 PC was no longer asking me to upgrade; instead, it’s now informing me that it has already scheduled an update for May 17.

M$ claims to have changed this MALWARE like behavior but we got to wonder what other tricks they will deploy to trick and strong arm people into downgrading to 10.

Windows 10 is the latest version of the Windows operating system. Windows 8 is several years old and Microsoft will eventually stop supporting that version.

All the Windows stuff is god dam mother foikin' crapola. If god dam Microsoft takes a huge downturn they will stop support on the Windows 10 OS in 2017 if they feel like it, and can get away with it because they are too big to fail.

I would use windows 10 since its optimized to use computer resources better than any other windows.
