What happens do the money due on a deficiency judgment on a car loan and the person dies?

There are no funds in estate to pay this off. Is the spouse liable?

    Not if spouse didn't sign the note.

    It depends on state laws, the spouse may or may not be liable.

    When my dad died, my mom wasn't responsible for any of his debts.
