Do liberals believe in National Borders?

As I understand the liberal position on Middle Eastern refugees; the liberals believe we should let into the USA, ANY middle eastern muslim who claims refugee status even tough we have absolutely NO way to vette them since there is nothing we can vette them with?

I see emotion laden words tossed about like "Racism", "Hate", and "Fear", but I NEVER see any liberal address the issue of how we tell the good guys from the bad!

Don't the liberals think the USA has the right to protect its borders? Do you think the USA should just disappear? What do YOU think is a viable way to deal with this very real problem? I'm not going to set restrictions on how people should respond, that's for 13 year olds, but I'd like to hear some thoughtful responses from the liberals.

Update:

Is ANYONE on the left going to try to offer a solution? Is all the left is good for is grandstanding the problems?

it would have been nice if we had vetted the cuban immigrants back in 1979...

the cocaine cartels would have never gotten a toe-hold in miami if we had... but conservatives insisted they be allowed to enter the US without restriction.

if you're going to criticize liberals for acting one way, you best make sure conservatives never acted the same way.

    edit:

i'm really not sure what a workable solution would be, glenbarrington.... i noticed your criticisms were leveled solely at liberals, and responded to that. my point is that conservatives don't have a workable solution, either, besides completely closing the borders... which, as "Judy & Charlie" and "Andy F" below me have pointed out is both inhumane and hypocritical.

what you're asking for is immigration agents to be able to look into the hearts and minds of everyone who seeks entrance to the United States...

i just can't bring myself to slam the same door into their faces that my own father walked through eight decades ago when his family was fleeing europe in the initial stages of what became world war 2. even then, the conservatives of the day would have closed the border to him - because he was Roman Catholic and they feared he and those like him would turn America into a satellite of the Vatican.

and don't say "it's not the same". many conservatives even today believe the "Knights of Columbus" is a paramilitary organization dedicated to the overthrow of our government and the imposition of a "Romanist" or "Papist" theocracy.

This is a good question. I think many liberals do believe in national borders, but some do not. And many are so committed to a compassionate system of ethics -- essentially Christian, but without the theology -- that they're willing to ignore the question of borders in order to address the refugee crisis and Latin American violence & poverty in a compassionate way.

Also, many liberals point out that virtually all US citizens today are the descendants of immigrants. In some cases these immigrants came to the US in times of desperation, even because they were in fear for their lives. Think, for example, of the Irish, the Jews, the anti-Castro Cubans, and Polish Americans and Hungarian Americans whose parents came to this country to escape from Communism.

With the experiences of their own ancestors in mind, many liberals are extremely reluctant to close the US borders to new immigrant groups, many of which also consist of people fleeing desperate circumstances at home.

The result, I think, is that many liberals strike many conservatives as being totally oblivious on the question of national sovereignty. Their position leaves them extremely vulnerable to rightwing, somewhat demagogic movements representing the politics of nativism -- viz, the movement coming together behind Donald Trump.

Given their own compassionate ethical values, however, it's very difficult for many liberals to contemplate the idea of closing US borders to new waves of desperate people, many of whom are fleeing home countries where US foreign policy and US economic interests have helped to support dictatorships or foster violent chaos and social breakdown. Such as El Salvador, for example, currently suffering a horrible crime wave at the hands of youth gangs that had their origins in Los Angeles.

I'm very aware of our National Borders and the Cosnervatives who are so afraid for their lives that they want to put a wall around it. I'm aware of all these things. Now, you say Muslim refugees are a problem because they could be ISIS. What about the American citizens that could potentially be ISIS? Like the Orlando shooter. Should we ban them too? Who are they? Idk. Do you? Do you just think it's any dark skinned Arab you can point at?

I doubt you see where I'm going with this. But you will one day, maybe.

They're usually rivers and stuff. Like the Frontera Grande used to be the Rio Grande.
