Yahoo Answers is shutting down on May 4th, 2021 (Eastern Time) and beginning April 20th, 2021 (Eastern Time) the Yahoo Answers website will be in read-only mode. There will be no changes to other Yahoo properties or services, or your Yahoo account. You can find more information about the Yahoo Answers shutdown and how to download your data on this help page.

Can the Asker hide an answer, and if they can, will it be hidden from all users or just hidden from the asker.?

Reason I ask is I just received a seemingly nonsensical reply from an appeal reviewer (not unusual considering the Zombie Virus infestation at Customer Care).

Quote:

"If it's your question, when you give an answer a thumbs-down rating, you can also select Hide Answer. Select 1 answer hidden to display it again."

Update:

By the way, I don't give thumbs downs. Plus I run a script that hides the thumbs down feature. I'm a staunch supporter of the First Amendment.

Yahoo agrees to GNI Principles. . .

Update 2:

Update 3:

You guys never read those GNI Principles I linked to. Of which Yahoo is a founding member.

Read 'em and weep, or continue to feign ignorance.

NB: A thumbs down is disrespectful of that persons opinion.

Just saying. ;-)

No, asker cannot hide answers nor can any other user.

Thumbs down MAY hide an answer from the asker; it does not hide it from anybody else, nor does an answerer giving another answer a thumbs down hide the answer from anybody. Reporting an answer will hide that answer from the person who did the reporting - but not from anybody else.

As to "freedom of expression", Yahoo, as owner of the site, maintains the right to have rules here, and we all agreed to those rules when we joined. So we accepted those restrictions. Thumbs down is merely another form of expressing an opinion about something, BTW. Just saying. :-)
