I think the demonization of Wall Street is quite silly. Your retirement is based on a pension. Pensions are funded through investments. People buy stocks all the time. Regular middle class patriotic Americans. If companies did not sell shares, then all decisions would be in the hands of the tiny group of people that had control of the company, like the family that owns it. Shareholding gives regular people a chance to have some sway, through owning shares and through appearances at shareholder meetings, over how a corporation is run. If you think about it, that sounds kind of democratic.
