Is one 1 TB good for gaming?

I'm getting a desktop computer to play sims and I'm wondering if 1TB is good enough on a hard drive. I really have no idea about technology and computers and stuff like that, so any help would be great.

Yes it is but hard drive is only a small piece of what you want for a good gaming computer, you also want a good processor so your not experiencing too much lag, and a graphics card for quality visual affects, some games require a minimum type of graphics card and processor to run a specific game, but sims doesn't ask for too much.

If your only planning to play sims than you may not need something too advanced but something more powerful will let you keep your gaming options open. good luck.

hmmm, well if you're going to only play The Sims then 1TB is fine.

Some of these games are a whopping 60gb. So if you have a large library of games then a 1TB drive will get filled up fast.

SSD drives are becoming all the rage. A few years ago they were for only extreme enthusiast. Now they're a higher end part that's more or less mainstream. The same way an i7 processor is mainstream. Once you go with a SSD drive you won't go back because of the faster load times. A lot of people will buy a 250gb SSD drive and store the OS and their favorite programs on it. The rest of the files would go on a standard storage drive.

1TB is fine for now and good enough if you're going to play only a few games. Although, in a couple years you might wind up looking for a larger drive.

I assume that you're on a budget and you might be looking at a prebuilt PC from a store like Best Buy. You might want to take a look at the Graphics Processor/Graphics card as well. This will help enhance the graphics of the game. The Sims will work on an iGPU like the Intel 530 graphics. However, some of these modern games won't work with an iGPU.

If you're okay with spending +$500 on the tower alone then maybe you should look at building a PC or at least becoming familiar with the parts.

Whatever you do, don't have Best Buy install anything into your PC. They charge by the hour and their hardware is overpriced. Installing a graphics card or a hard drive is relatively simple.

Hard disk size just determines how much stuff you can store.

How many different games / pictures / videos etc the hard disk can hold.

So you can have a computer with only an 80gb hard disk, and it will run just fine. But you can only install a couple of big games on it before you run low on space. A 1Tb disk is 1,000 gb, so you can install dozens of different games without filling it up and having to remove stuff.

If it's a desktop machine, you can always buy another drive later and use that for extra storage. So if you run low on space in a couple of years, you just buy a 2Tb disk, and add that to the system.

1 TB is 1,000 GB. It's a LOT of storage
