Natives of the city of Los Angeles: what is considered the most dangerous and the safest part of the city?
I will be traveling there this weekend and was wondering if I should be really aware of my surroundings. I must admit I have a minor fear especially because I suffer from Epilepsy

No place is going to be 100% safe, and you should ALWAYS be aware of your surroundings. It doesn't matter if you are on vacation or walking in your own neighborhood.
As a tourist you aren't going to go into the "bad" areas. But if for some reason you decide to explore the city even the "bad" areas are generally fine during the day as long as you don't do something stupid. Stupid things would be things such as start flashing gang signs thinking you are "cool", or carrying around a wad of cash while talking on your phone.
Also, if your epilepsy is bad enough to cause you to be fearful of being alone, perhaps you should bring someone with you.

Any area of Los Angeles (as well as anywhere in the world) can be considered dangerous. Danger doesn't look at a neighborhood and go, "Oh, I shouldn't go here. There shouldn't be danger here." Danger is everywhere. Safety is also an illusion because as stated, danger can happen anywhere at any time. As James stated, just be aware of your surroundings no matter where you go.

Every non-White area is very risky, especially after dark. White areas are much safer. Hope this helps.
