Atheists in America. Do you get bombarded with Christian nonsense everyday or isn't it that bad.?

Christianity is ubiquitous in American society. Most of our national holidays are rooted in religion. Thanksgiving is giving thanks to God for saving the pilgrims, Christmas, and Easter; even Mother's and Father's day have a religious undertone. Further, a person of religious conviction is automatically granted standing by most of society, for example, it is common for ministers and priests to testify before congress on policy issues that they are unqualified to discuss only because they are religious leaders (while qualified secular speakers are shut out). And, there are literally 1000s of churches in every American city, 1000s of billboards proclaiming God's existence, and hundreds of religion-based radio and television networks.

Now, is it as bad as Saudi Arabia or Pakistan, where atheists can be put to death for their beliefs and where armed religious police patrol the streets. Of course not (though I get the impression that some Fox News hosts would welcome a Christian version of that).

But, I am faced with religion every day of my life. I have to be careful who I tell I am an atheist because they might take offense (and if they are your boss... that can be a problem). It is a society where I am told I am immoral and untrustworthy because I cannot blindly believe a fairytale.

I imagine it will depend on where you are. I visited Florida 2 years back and I was pretty much bombarded with Christian nonsense every day, from lame sky writings about how "Jesus saves" or "John 3:16" vs, being yelled at by no less than 3 street preachers, to having pamphlets thrust in my face almost every day. A close second was just how many times I was asked to attend a seminar for purchasing a timeshare.. and the one time in Clearwater that I was approached by a Scientologist with a pamphlet.

I live in a city, so no. I imagine even cities in the South wouldn't have much in your face nonsense... But I am in the North and aee nothing, besides the occasional insane street preacher which everyone ignores

I avoid people as much as possible, and no longer have TV. So, I don't encounter much from Christians outside this website.

The problem is not anything to do with atheists, God, Jesus, the bible, or even Christianity and all to do with the intolerance, hatred, bigotry, homophobia and persecution posted by Christians towards others!

Its not bad at all. in fact some of the Christian nonsense is most enjoyable.

Pretty much every day, but mostly only on the internet.

In real life, very few conservative Christians are stupid enough to say such crap to my face.

It bares only the significance on gives to it, not an issue.
