How do you 'Drop Out' of th eJob Market?
I am asking this question not as a political comment or to spark debate, but out of honest curiosity. I keep seeing statistics of how many people have simply dropped out of the job market and are no longer employed or seeking employment and I can't understand how they survive. Are there really enough programs out there that employment is no longer necessary?
FWIW, I have been steadily employed since I was 18 (part-time prior to that since I was 11) and my family and I barely make enough to get by. How is it possible to not work and still manage?

Such as long term ill/disabled, those who become single parents and no longer work claiming benefits, others make benefit claiming a lifestyle choice, some are perpetual students returning to study full time on bursaries, grants, research sponsorship

Many work a job, but not a job that is equal to their skill level. Many also choose to retire early. No there are not enough programs to make employment optional. To get assistance, you need to liquidate your assets. Meaning, you can't own a home or have any other assets like savings or investments.

People go on disability, adjust to one income households, collect SS retirement benefits or cash in on a 401k/403b/pension, and last but not least, work for cash under the table. That will remove you from being tracked by gov stats.

most of them are criminals -- the desire for money does not disappear from those who aren't working, just the desire for an honest job.
