I am trying to get a replacement Social Security Card.?

However I know live in another state. How would I go about getting a replacement SS Card without having to travel back to my original state?

Social Security is a federal agency; not state. Your servicing SS office is the office which services your current address anywhere in the US (even outside of the US). You can get the address of your nearest office at ssa.gov; all you have to do is input your zip code.

That said, if you are age 18 or older you can get a replacement card at ssa.gov. If not for some reason, you can download the application, SS-5, complete it and mail it to your nearest office with ID. ssa.gov lists what is acceptable ID which does not include a birth certificate and they require the original - not a photocopy. If you can't do it online and don't want to do it via mail you can always visit the office. Offices are open weekdays (not week-ends) 9 to 4 except on Wednesday when they close at noon.

Cards are not issued by the local office but are issued from one central location; it will take 2 to 3 weeks before you get your replacement. When you get that card do not carry it around with you. It is an important document and should be kept at home in a safe place with other important document to avoid the possibility of identity theft.

You don't need to be in the same state. SS is a Federal program. Check their website and see what documents are allowed for proof of identity. I had to do this about 15 years ago and at the time, you did have to go down to the SS office to get it done.
