    Sandboxie.

If what you are looking for is something to stop viruses a Sandbox web browser stops everything.

Antiviruses analyze files for viruses and at best find about 80-90%. That's why you will eventually sooner or later get a virus. It's no longer a matter of if you will get a virus from using an antivirus it's a matter of when you will get it there are just too many viruses on the internet for one single antivirus to protect you if you don't believe me look at all the people here on the security section with antiviruses and infected computers. Sandboxie is a free program and it's basically like a virtual condom for a web browser it stops everything, period, something the industry does not want you to know because they cannot make profit on this because it's totally free. It was developed years ago and now many security programs are using this better protection method. I've been using it for many years, go on infected web sites with tonnes of viruses and I don't even break a sweat. Its like a virtual transparent wall between the outside world and my computer nothing gets in.

The best free antivirus is Avast. It checks your email, web sites, router, browser etc. It has a Sandbox app but it's an extra charge and it's not comparable to sandboxie. The best feature of Avast is their free banking web browser. This browser is isolated from your computer so if you had a malicious keylogger it cannot see you entering your bank or any other passwords. Stops hackers stealing your info. I use this since I got rid of norton ten years ago

Several computer magazines I read have recently tested various AV packages. Avast came out on top for free packages and Kaspersky won the vote for a paid-for package in all the magazines.

Microsoft Windows Defender and Security Essentials came out as the least effective.

    I hope this helps.

The best, is one you buy if you value your privacy.

If you're not paying for it, you’re not the customer, you’re the product being sold.

The no.1 antivirus in the world is you. Learn how the internet works and how they plant things on your puter. Remember, free is never free on the internet. When they say free think about what else is going to be installed on your puter. When they say free think about your personal data being leaked by what the free AV let in. These companies offering free AV have to make money some how. They do it by selling out to the corporation who peddle spyware and adware. There is a lot of free AV and firewalls on the market that are more spyware then security product. The worse thing about free AV is that they do not have PUP (potential unwanted program) protection. Just detecting viruses is just part of what a AV should do. Detecting spyware and adware is another part of it. While they might catch some of the rogue PUP out there, they let PUP by major corporations get by. It is like they do it intentional. I have spent many hours digging out and removing PUP that the user never knew got installed and all of them ran free AV.

Comodo is a perfect example of this. They got caught selling its user out to the highets bidder.

AVG is another one. They have changed their privacy policy to allow them to collect and sell your info. From AVG "We collect non-personal data to make money from our free offerings so we can keep them free, including: Advertising ID associated with your devices Browsing and search history, including meta data; Internet service provider or mobile network you use to connect to our products; and Information regarding other applications you may have on your device and how they are used."

There are so many more but if you use a free anything kiss what little privacy you have left. If you're not paying for it you're the product.

The links below will help you find which ones have a good detection rate and low false positive.

Real World Protection. In this chart M$ has the worse infection rate at 9.2% but no false detections. Trend Micro has the best detection rate but a very bad false detection rate. When picking an AV, these are what you look for. You look for a good balance between them.

    http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php

Heuristic Behavioral Test You also look for an AV that has Heuristic. They have yet to test this in Windows 10 but in 7 M$ came in near the bottom. This section is what I consider to be one of the most important part of an AV.

    http://chart.av-comparatives.org/chart1.php?chart=...

Why I included the Heuristic Behavioral Test. The explanation below is from AV-Comparatives

The retrospective tests evaluate the products against new and unknown malware to measure the proactive protection capabilities (e.g. through heuristics, generic signatures, etc.). This test also takes into consideration the false positive rate. Starting from 2012, the remaining malicious files are also being executed, so that the proactive protection provided by e.g. behavior blockers is evaluated.

The there is how bad it affects proformance. If it makes your system lag severly then it is a waste of your recources.

Source(s): TWB 35+ years of experience in the service industry. You name it, I have probably fixed it. I have spent a life time taking things apart, seeing how they are made and fixing them. The difficult we do right away, the impossible just takes a little longer. I'm old school. I show others respect. I will always help when needed. That is the country way. I hear voices, so please be quiet so I can listen to them.
