Why do people think jesus is white?

  • Because all their picture books show him as white.

Funnily, this is the beginning of my own atheism. At 5 yrs old or so, my very religious grandmother started taking me to Sunday School. Like all kids, I found the stories fun and entertaining, but this being a United Church (in Canada, a very low key congregation that avoided statues, paintings, etc) I asked "But what did Jesus LOOK like?" After a couple of weeks, they found me a picture in some sort of children's bible and showed me the typical western Jesus. White, long hair, white robe, looked like he belonged on a romance novel cover.

My first thought was "But that just looks like any guy, shouldn't the son of God be special?"

I don't think I ever really bought into the creed from that day forward

white people do not come from any desert.

the jews are a middle eastern people ... this means they're BROWN SKIN people.

today, when you look at israel, you see a country of white skin ... why ?

cos they are ashamed to be brown and want to be white thru intermarriage.

the white Jesus is portrayed such by the white race that have come to accept & worship Jesus.

i guess, they cannot imagine a Jesus who is truly brown ...

He is even portrayed with blonde hair, blue eyes ... wearing a hebrew dress ?? hehe

    they're a joke.

  • Not everyone does.

I imagine the people who do are the same people who think God chose the Jews, but somehow favors Americans more than anyone else. Also people who don't really care enough to think beyond a few Bible verses and a few images made by predominantly white countries.

Actually I don't personally know anyone who debates the matter. It's not at all important. He was clearly a Jew in the flesh. And all the Jews I have ever met - more than just a few - were all white.

I think you mean "Caucasian." By modern standards, Jesus probably was "white," in the same sense that modern Sephardic Jews are classified as white. He just wasn't Caucasian, and certainly didn't have the blond hair or blue eyes that you see in Northern Europeans. His closest living relatives would be Sephardic Jews, Lebanese, and Syrians. Think Tony Shalub (Lebanese), Jerry Seinfeld (Sephardic and Syrian), or Hank Azaria (Sephardic and Greek). If you look at depictions of ancient Jews in murals, most of them look like Tony Shalub - black, curly hair, olive complexion.

Look up "De Europos synagogue" in Yahoo images to see how ancient Jews depicted themselves in art.

    Because he was a ghost.

White people glow in the dark - white people are not real, they come back from the dead.
