Is it possible to have been in 3 different military branches?

So I know this guy who is a high ranking NYPD cop, and he claims he was in 3 separate military branches.... Is that even possible?

He says he started as a Marine Corps enlisted, then went to law school and became a Nay JAG officer, then left the Navy and became a JAG officer for the Army National Guard while doing his police career.

This seems kind of hard to believe, so is this even possible?

Update:

Navy* typo sorry.

Update 2:

Yes that's his name Ninefinger! I'm impressed you guessed it like that. Thank you all so much for your great answers!

Are you talking about Chief Danial ******** ? If so, not only is it true, he is a legend in the NYPD. There are also quite a few others that have also served in three branches.

That route is very plausible. It would not be something you set out to do. He basically had a break in service to become a JAG. Later he joined the National Guard. The first Army National Guard unit I joined was an armor unit. We had a number of veterans that had been Marine riflemen in Vietnam. We even had a former Navy join who had been on attack subs. I've been in other National Guard units with former Air Force personnel. The Army National Guard gets a lot from other services because units are all over.

    yea, thats possible

    not hard to believe

usually people do not consider going enlisted to officer in another branch, to be looked at as serving in another service branch

and a lawyer leaving active service going into the national guard is not a big deal

if it was combat arms-- then i might question it, but not as a lawyer

Yes, it is very possible, especially, back in the days (it is much harder nowadays).

Staff Sgt. Jesus Yanez served in 4 branches in 20 years:
