Can you replace an Iphone 5s Battery with a cracked screen?

I recently tried to replace my iphone 5s battery because it was draining really quickly. I did it myself because taking it to an apple store would be to expensive, however when I took it there they told me they couldn't replace the battery without replacing the screen due to the condition of the screen. Now that I have replaced the battery, the screen will light up but there is no display. I am sure I connected the screen back to the phone correctly so I am not sure what is wrong. Can anyone Help?
