A small amount of plain vanilla, no syrup or other topping, is okay as a once in a blue moon treat. However, since most dogs are lactose intolerant, a dog can suffer after eating ice cream from painful abdominal cramping and diarrhea. Grocery stores sell ice cream alternatives for dogs in the pet food sections that won't cause the cramping or diarrhea (if fed in small amounts).

Some dogs are lactose intolerant, but none of mine ever had a problem from licking an ice cream bowl. I lived in the mountains in a former vacation rental with the tiniest freezer. I used to buy a small container of ice cream and bring it home and share it with my two dogs. No problem.

Just as other things said to be dangerous for dogs, it's only when a dog eats a LOT of such food that tere can be problems. Yes, some dogs will react badly to something like chocolate, dark chocolate if eaten in enough amounts but basically your dog should be fine sharing the occasional small amount of ice cream with you.

Some of this may help - but we are basically looking at using Common Sense. If your dog reacts badly after eating A LITTLE ice cream, don't give it to him again.

Many dogs are lactose intolerant so it's best not to feed them any ice cream or they may end up with diarrhea. With that said, I do believe that do make ice cream especially for canines, but I sure as heck wouldn't waste my money to buy it.

When I get a Mr Whippy I snap the bottom of the cone off and make a mini cone for the dog. I've always done that and never had a problem.

Yes I spoil my dogs. No they are not badly behaved.

Some dogs cant drink a bowl of cows milk without getting an upset stomach from the lactose, but processed milk is not the same as raw.
