I was surprised when I found out US schools no longer teach students to write cursive. Are they taught to read it?

It depends on the school district. Many US school DO still teach it. Contact your school district or specifics on what is taught.

Who writes anything in long hand anymore? When would they ever need to read cursive writing? In many countries, students always printed- there was no such thing as cursive. They got along just fine.

Very few schools don't actually teach it. It's just no longer one of the standards. Most schools still teach it. It's just that since it was removed as a standard, people are FREAKING OUT saying "Schools aren't teaching cursive anymore!" It's just like the people who are against gun control freaking out because they believe that means the government is going to come take their guns away.

Judging by the literacy level of YA, US children are not taught to read and write at all.
