Is the Canon Rebel xt a good starter camera?

So I'm looking at getting into photography. I'm mostly looking at taking pictures of my car and doing some video of it. Mostly just car related stuff on it. Would it be a good camera to get and start off with. Does anyone know if it's worth it or just to use my smartphone to take pictures and videos.

    Yeah, in fact, any DSLR is a good starter camera. Keep in mind that any DSLR is much better than any of the SLRs used in the film days. If you can't take a good shot with a DSLR, it's not the camera, it's you.

    The problem that you appear to have is that while you want to learn how to make a good photograph, you may not know what features that a camera must have in order to do it. Unless you're doing something unique or technically challenging like fast action, any SLR or DSLR will be capable of being used to consistently create a good or great photo.

    The XT is a pretty old camera now. Still capable of producing excellent images but it has no video capability. To get a Canon Rebel with video you need one of the T series
