Laptop power supply?

Hello, I have what is probably a simple question about a power supply for a laptop.

I have a laptop which I believe needs a 65Watt 19 Volt 3.42 Amp power brick.

I have an 80 watt 19 Volt power supply and if my maths is correct this gives 4.21 Amps.

My question is, if I connect this brick to the laptop will it cause damage with the difference in specs or will the laptop only take what it needs?

Sorry if this seems a stupid question but I have had very little to do with electrics since I left school many years ago.

Thank you

Bob

Electronic devices will only pull the AMPS it needs, but voltage is electrical pressure. connecting a higher voltage power input will kill your device. Since they are both 19V it should work fine (as long as it properly fits into the charger port ofcourse).

No, it will not harm your computer. The laptop will only draw the amount of power it needs, specified on the laptop itself.

    Cheers :)

The only thing you need to be concerned about is that the plug is the same and the polarity is correct. If it's not---TOAST!!!

It will not harm your computer... but it will kill your Battery.
