How can someone divorce for free in Georgia?

I know someone who wants to, but the lawyer told her $300 and she can't afford it. She was married to a scum 11 years and has 3 kids and he's never around and never did anything for them. My sister has bills and the $300 is kinda hard for her.

She can go to Georgia Legal Aid and ask for help, or ask another attorney. There are those who will meet for free for a short time at first, to assess the situation in general. Since marital assets - including the money HE has- are to be shared, often the legal fees come out of the settlement.

She could also file an application for a fee waiver:

That would allow her to file for divorce on her own(NOT recommended) without paying the filing fee- which is around $200 depending upon which county she lives in.

She should read through the material on the Legal Aid website, and then try and then contact them for help. If he is elsewhere with a capital "E", he probably has money that is hers. He will certainly owe support for the children.

    well the search engine sayss

A filing fee must be paid to the Clerk of Superior Court of the county in which the divorce case occurs. Each county can set the filing fee to be paid within certain limits. Typically, the filing fee ranges from $200.00 to about $220.00.

she could go online at a crowdfunding site, it is possible to imagine there would be sympathetic crowdfunders!

There is no free divorce. There are filing fees. For $300, this lawyer is already working for free, as that is the average cost to file for divorce
