Who invented the first horse blanket, what did it look like and when was it patented?

People have been putting blankets on horses, either to keep the horse warm or to sit on, since prehistory. There is no way of knowing when or where it was first done: but certainly it was millennia before anyone invented the concept of patents.

Well, it was an old horse trader called Phineas T Bluster in 1873, although they said he stole the idea from the Indians.
