No medal for the US women in soccer?

Update:

Will this be the biggest shock in Rio?

Judging by how they played in the group stage and that Pia Sundhage is the only coach who knows the USWNT inside and out, I'm not shocked by the result that much. There seems to be a bit of a leadership issue on the team and they felt pretty predictable playing. I'm also wondering if they were more concerned about their lawsuit than representing their nation in the Olympics.

Biggest shock to me though is the Williams sisters getting bounced very easily in the first round

To me, absolutely not shocking, especially considering the nation that just bounced them--Sweden. They've beaten the USWNT before, and considering their current coach, Pia Sundhage, had previously coached the USWNT before the arrival of Jill Ellis, she didn't necessarily know every player's strengths and weaknesses, but instead formulated a plan to neutralize the general overall strengths of our team. And she and her team succeeded. So what it went to penalties? They won, end of story. What I am sorely disgusted with is Hope Solo calling the Swedish team cowards for playing just to counterattack. Uh, hello?! Your team was the better team on paper, Hope!! But guess what?? A match isn't ever won on paper, you earn it on the field. You brought a C game and got busted. Get over it, you lost. It's not the end of the world. Stop being such a crybaby and prepare for the next defense of the World Cup in 2019.

Good luck to the Swedish women's national team going forward. Now go grab that gold medal!!!!

Nope they lost, that is part of the game, it is not always an automatic win and you need to play until the final whistle blows. What is very unsportsmanlike is the way Hope Solo reacted saying that Sweden were cowards in the way they played. Pot calling the kettle black because the US HAS played like that before.

No. I'm more shocked that Serena Williams was bounced so early, both in singles and doubles competition.

But I am very surprised the World Cup champs were bounced so quickly.

As Chris Berman says, "That's why they play the game."

This is a big surprise. The American women deserve it. Instead of focusing on the tournament they focused on getting paid the same as men in spite of not generating the same cash revenue as men.

No. They aren't as good anymore. They were beat fairly by a better Swedish team.
