Which online homeschooling program is best?

My mom was thinking about taking me out of school and homeschooling me b/c of my anxiety. She said if there was any programs that offered high school credits (or something like that) she would use that. I have a friend who just became homeschooled and she uses time4learning and has a planner to keep up with all the work she has done since that doesn't offer any. Would that work if there's not a high school credited program out there??

There is no best program for everyone. It depends on your situation and learning style. You should also learn the difference between a correspondence program and online curriculum. You do not receive credits for independent homeschooling using online curriculum. Your parents would be in charge of your education including picking your curriculum, schedule, rules, and assignments. You must follow your state's homeschool laws. Programs like Time4learning and Discoveryk12.com (it's different from the K12.com schools) do not offer credits because they are only a curriculum, not a school. Students using their program do their own record keeping. However, you do not need to use an online program to indepdently homeschool. Many families still use textbooks and workbooks or a combination of them and some online courses. Those are all perfectly legal options as long as you are following your state's homeschool laws.

Schools and correspondence programs (either public or private) offer credits for enrolled students. You would follow their curriculum, schedule, rules, and assignments. Some offer more flexibility than others. Programs range in cost from free for state online public schools to several thousand dollars for some private programs. They may be either online or traditional book based.

If you are looking for online homeschool then Forest Trail Academy, Keystone, National High School can be considered. Connections Academy and K12 are some good public online homeschools. Time4Learning is also a good option if you want to do text based(traditional) homeschooling. It depends on you now to decide but make sure your are choosing the accredited program. All the very best!

There is no best, except for what's best for individuals.

There are public and private online schools. Public no cost ones operate in some but not all states. The private ones are ignored in this thread. It fits the talking points better. If you live in a state where there are no public options you can choose to use a private one. They vary greatly in quality. You'll need to do research, but laurel springs, Calvert and BYU are all respected.

Time for learning would work. You would be considered independently homeschooled. You would need to comply with the homeschooling laws in your state. Look them up. Time for learning isn't the most rigorous curriculum, but if that's what you're looking for, it'll work.

Last and I know you didn't ask, homeschooling is a good choice in your situation, however seek medical treatment as well. School is rarely the sole trigger for anxiety. If it were, no adults would have anxiety issues. You're likely to have the same issues and they may very well worsen making you unable to work or attend college.

You do not understand what homeschooling is. Online programs like K12 and Connections Academy ARE public schools, which are regulated by your state. It makes all public school basically the same. They must have so many hours of instruction (about 6) each day for so many days per school year (about 180). You do have to take standardized test and whatever subjects your state requires in order to issue a diploma which you can google for the list (“your state” and ”high school graduation requirements”). As public schools they are in no way homeschooling but public school in your home. Online public schools are free for you just as all public schools are. There are also online private schools. Private schools are just that – private. They are minimally regulated (usually just health and safety) and can decide how they want to handle credits, courses, etc. Many are also religious organizations which is something public schools cannot offer instruction in. They are supported by parents who pay tuition. In those states where free online public schools are not allowed to operate, your parent may still enroll you but they are tuition based private schools. Homeschooling is a parent accepting legal responsibility for your education. They may purchase course materials for you but they are responsible for teaching you as stipulated in the laws of your state that cover homeschooling. You are not connected to any public school, so the parent decides what you will learn and when you qualify for a diploma. Your parent issues it. You need to do more reading and learning so you can educate your parent about the different educational options that are available to him or her. Time 4 learning sells curriculum materials for parents to use in a homeschooling program. It is not a school. What you do with those materials is up to you. There is no ‘best’. Each public, private or homeschool curriculum is different as is each student. It’s a question of matching the materials to the student’s abilities, interests and family, so what’s best for your friend might be perfect for you or a major disaster.
