how can you tell if a backpack's hip belt is load bearing or more for stability?
I'm looking into getting a new daypack because I want something less conspicuous than my backpacking pack to load up with weights to train with both around town and on dayhikes. So when browsing outdoor gear websites (e.g. REI's outlet, where I can't see the products in-store first), are there any good ways to tell if a hip belt is designed for load bearing?

If designed for weight bearing, it will be wide and padded. It won't have a cheap plastic buckle. It will attach to the frame or structure of the pack, rather than a seam.
