Is it going to just below the Hot mark or is it going into the red?
Open the hood. That's the bit in front the windscreen.
Locate the coolant reservoir. Check to see if the is any coolant in the reservoir. If not, top up to the 'Full when Cold' mark.
If coolant is at full mark check the serpentine belt. If that is still in place check to see if the fan cuts in when it should.
Get a power washer and blast out the vents of the radiator.
If all that fails to stop it going into the red then it's probably either the thermostat or the water pump.

Turn the motor off immediately if the temperature gauge is going into the hot part of the gauge. failing to do so means you take a chance of ruining the head gaskets.
