If i unroot my android will changes that i made (thru root access) revert back?

i want to upgrade my rooted android to a version 5.0 that is why i am unrooting it and will re-root it again after.

I have a few apps that require root access, mostly customizing apps that change the phone's appearance, will i lose any changes that these apps have made?

Update:

Is there another way to upgrade the firmware of a rooted phone?

Update 2:

i appreciate any help or info on the matter. Thanks all

Nope! you can't upgrade your rooter + un-rooted phone you gonna have to flash stock rom first then go to settings about - > check software update
