How do stay-at-home parents go back to work when not working looks bad?

Lets say you are a stay-at-home parent who stayed home for any amount of time (doesnt matter if its 8 months, 1 year, or even 2 to 5 years). How do they go back to work when not working looks bad and no one wants people who dont work (since its stereotypes such as laziness, etc). Would they have to say at interview (if they ever get interview) that they were a stay-at-home parent (if asked)? Is stay-at-home parent looked at differently?

Im just curious so I dont want anyone to be rude, trollers, etc.

Most employers are actually human beings who understand that a new parent might want to take a little time off from work give a child a good start in life. Some employers, however are not human. You have to take a chance, you never know who'll be hiring.

Anyway, if you have a large gap in your work life, and lower skills, you may have to start again at or near the bottom of the ladder and start your career climb all over again. Depends on the field.
