Roaming on your phone will probably work fine. Check your plan. If you use tons of data and have an unlocked phone, buy a Canadian SIM card, it might be cheaper.
Incidentally, most of Canada has no cell coverage. Only the bits where people live, plus major highways, which covers 99.9% of cases.

Never heard of anyone who used the Lyca services.
The "big three" cellphone service providers in Canada are Bell, Rogers, and Telus. They have regular services as well as pay as you go options. You can see if Fido, Koodo, or Virgin have SIM cards that can be used in your phone.
If you have an unlocked phone, you can also look at Petro-Canada. This company is essentially a gas station chain and oil refining service, but they have sim cards they sell too.

You'll be fine without a sim card, still check with your provider to make sure you're getting the plan you want while traveling.
Have fun!
Side note: some people may look at you funny if you say eh

Are you going to phone a lot locally? By the way, I wouldn't try the Ehh joke on Canadians, it's worn thin.
