What can I do about my prolonged period?

Please let your ob/gyn know of any prolonged menstrual periods just to rule out certain health issues related to that, such as hormonal issues (or fibroids). A side effect from a prolonged menstrual period can be iron deficiency anemia. Therefore, it's important to make an appointment with your doctor to look for the reason(s) for that issue.
Please check with your doctor before taking iron pills as too much iron in the blood may result in kidney or liver (the largest internal organ) damage. Your doctor may want you to send you for a blood test to check for the anemia, for instance, before recommending whether to take iron supplements.
