Does anywhere on here ask serious questions about real books rather than fantasise about being able to write one?

Update:

Does anyone on here ask serious questions about real books rather than fantasize about being able to write one?

Update 2:

Even a discussion of examined texts would be useful, surely.

There are numerous good questions posted here and they get quality answers. (mixed in with the troll and other insulting answers of course) Unfortunately, most questions asked here are irrelevant "homework assignments", or non-writers asking for help to produce a million copy seller even though they have no imagination, nor talent. Asking for help to name a character is probably the second dumbest question I see here. It is YOUR story, so YOU name your characters to fit YOUR style! The dumbest question is the one asking for plots and ideas so that they can write a novel. If you don't have an original idea to work with, how do you expect to build an original story?

There are but they are immediately reported or moved by Level 7 users like yourself. Also many "regular and TC" users have a really serious delusion issue. The likes of Crow, Bedlam, Fritz, Anastasius, David and Beautiful Nightmare seem to think they are superior and have the right to insult and make threats to other users when they have no successful background in writing.

    Hardly ever.

Years ago, when I naively assumed Yahoo gave a crap, I did ask about creating a separate category. I can count on one hand the amount of q's I've answered about published books other than Harry Potter/Twilight/exam texts etc. I'm not criticising anyone who wants advice about the writing process or popular fiction, but it has effectively choked this category.

Edit - re: exam texts. Questions exploring and expanding the texts themselves would be welcome, but 99% are 'do my homework for me'. Not the same at all.

If you're looking for serious discussion about books and writing you are in the wrong place. While there are some decent conversations from time to time, they don't happen often. And now that school is starting up again here in the US there will soon be a flood of "What happened in chapters 3, 4, and 5 in the book 'I Can't Be Bothered with Doing My Homework'"?

  • Sure

The homework ones generally get ignored. Most people are sick of answering questions any fifth grader could answer, if they'd read the text.

The non-homework ones get answered, sometimes, but other times you miss the five people who have actually read the The Ballad of Lost C'Mell or the Sorrows of Young Werther, two of whom might be interested in discussing it.

Yes, quite often. People ask if others can identify a book they want to read again, but do not remember the title and author - they ask if others can recommend good books for them - and, unfortunately, they ask if other people can answer their homeword questions for them

Have you got a serious question?

Well, yeah, but usually those questions were actually asked by a teacher and are posted here as an attempt to cheat on homework.
